Artist Statement

 

My practice explores the intersection of traditional textile techniques and contemporary material experimentation. Methods such as free-form hand crocheting, hand felting, hand stitching and basketry—techniques historically associated with domestic craft—are recontextualized through the use of unconventional, often recycled, industrial materials. through this process driven tactile practice, I aim to transform conventional to innovative, traditional to futuristic, into sculptural abstract works that invite new ways of seeing and feeling.

 

My visual language is shaped by my early life in tropical climate, where richness of nature-vibrant colors, layered textures and organic shapes from nature- left a lasting imprint on my senses, memory and emotions. In my recent works, I utilized free-form hand crocheting technique using monofilament of various colors and thicknesses. The material's translucency and luminocity led me to express layers of colors which mirror brush strokes of a painting while resulting in three dimensional forms. Through this body of work, I aim to offer sensory and emotional experience- one that invites on memory, warmth and connection.
